Workshop description

Color theory is an essential component of any painting.  This workshop teaches artists how to effectively use and mix colors to create harmony and unity in their artwork. In this workshop, students will learn the basic principles of color theory, including the color wheel, primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, and complementary colors.

We will also cover color harmonies, such as monochromatic, analogous, and complementary, and how to use these harmonies to create unity in a painting.

Students will also learn about the psychological effects of color and how to use color to convey emotion and mood in their work. We will explore the use of color value, saturation, and temperature to create depth and dimension in a painting.

Throughout the workshop, students will have the opportunity to experiment with different color combinations and techniques, and will be encouraged to think critically about the role of color in their own artwork.

By the end of this workshop, students will have a solid foundation in color theory and will be able to confidently use color to express themselves and enhance the impact of their paintings.

Students will make a deck of reference cards during the course to keep for the rest of their painting years!
