Workshop description
Whether you are new to working with resin or if you would like to hone your skills and learn new tips and tricks, this workshop is for you. Working with resin is a fast growing medium that can be applied to several modalities of art. We will discuss what resin is, different types of resin art, calculating the quantities, safety, best practices, and much much more.
We will work side-by-side and step-by-step to create two original resin pieces. The first piece you will learn how to create realistic ocean resin art and the second piece will be an original abstract piece. You will learn how to work in layers, mix pigments & paste and other mediums to create different effects. Each student will receive a supplies list upon registration.
You can expect this workshop to be as fun as it will be educational and informative.

About the Instructor
Salt Lake City based artist, Drew Benson, has been honing his artistic skills since childhood. Artistic expression came naturally to Drew, many would say that his artistic career has been a long time coming. For nearly two decades he showcased his enthusiasm for creative expression through his work as an Event Planner. In 2020 Drew was presented with an opportunity to follow his dreams and devote his time, energy, and passion for his art. He continually challenges himself to explore new mediums and techniques, which allows him to create something new and innovative with every piece.
Drew loves working in layers and uses a range of paints, pigments, resin and other nontraditional mediums. He creates richly textured surfaces, depth, and exuberant colors to create fluid and organic movement. Drew is inspired by the sea, which is often depicted throughout his work.
Recently, Drew Benson began exploring “Memorial Art”, as a way to honor his late father. By incorporating cremated human and pet remains into his artwork, he has been able to provide a unique way to pay respect and memorialize departed loved ones.
When he is not creating, you will find Drew outdoors gardening, traveling, and scuba diving. He loves spending time with loved ones, especially his husband Jason and his dog Simone. He is an advocate for all forms of self-expression and believes, "We are all artists and creators, the makers of our own dreams".
