Membership Rules & Guidelines

AT WORKSHOP SLC

General Membership Requirements

  • Memberships automatically renew. If you do not wish to renew, please notify us at least two weeks in advance. Refunds will not be issued without this notice.

  • If you cancel your membership before completing a 3-month, 6-month, or 1-year commitment, half the tuition of the remaining months will be charged. This policy ensures fairness and consistency for all our members who commit to these term lengths.

  • Members must be 18 years or older.

Studio Access & Reservations

  • Studio access is permitted during designated times: Monday through Sunday, 8 AM - 10 PM.

  • Reservations for open studio spots must be made through Acuity.

Personal Belongings & Storage

  • All personal items, including tools, clay, and pieces (in progress or completed), must be labeled and stored on your assigned shelf or in your designated area.

  • Each piece must be marked and identified to be fired.

  • Member shelves are assigned by Workshop SLC staff and must be kept organized and free of clutter.

  • Clearly label all containers with their contents.

Studio Use Guidelines

  • Only studio members may create or fire work; non-members are not permitted to do so.

  • We are a MID-FIRE studio:

    • Bisque kiln fires to cone 04.

    • Glaze kiln fires to cone 5.

    • Ensure your clay and glazes are suitable for these temperatures. External glazes must be stable at mid-fire temperatures to avoid dripping on kiln shelves. If unsure, please test-fire a tile first.

Studio Etiquette & Cleanliness

  • Clean up all areas you use, including equipment, tools, tables, wheels, and wedging tables.

  • Avoid putting clay in the sinks; use appropriate buckets for clay slurry. Only the pottery classroom sink has a clay trap—please do not use other sinks for clay.

  • If you use the fridge, microwave, or sink, clean up after yourself. Take care of your own dishes and dispose of garbage responsibly.

Health & Safety Guidelines

  • Only use outdoor-only or toxic aerosols, varnishes, clay, glazes, or paints outside. Do not use any toxic sprays indoors unless the work is completely dried.

  • Use plaster only in designated areas.

  • Securely lock all doors and turn off lights when leaving the building unattended. You will be responsible for any damage resulting from failure to do so.

  • Do not touch, move, or handle work that is not your own.

  • If you need to fire more than 10 pieces at a time, please speak to a manager.

Security & Conduct

  • Do not prop open entrances during or after business hours, and do not share entrance codes with anyone not listed in your member agreement (including cleaners or contractors).

  • Workshop SLC is not responsible for stolen property from studios or common areas, whether locked or unlocked.

  • Treat others with kindness and respect. If any conflicts arise, notify a staff member immediately.

  • No smoking or firearms are allowed inside the building.

Policy Compliance

  • Any infractions against Workshop SLC policy or your membership agreement may result in early termination of membership.
