This Botanical Sampler class with Elaine Hultgren will include a comprehensive introduction to four botanical fine art techniques, graphite, color pencil, watercolor and scientific illustration used in the creation of botanical art.
Each technique will be taught during each 3 hour session, 6-9pm, April 16 - May 7th. A portfolio of pertinent/relative information, a rose template on appropriate paper and the tools needed to render each technique will be provided to each artist/student.
A brief History of Botanical Art and Illustration visual presentation will be shown at the first 2 hour class April 9th, 6-8pm with an introduction of the four future botanical technique classes to be taught, April 16, 23, 30 and May 7th, 6-9pm.
This class is appropriate for all artists, beginning to advanced who are interested in sampling four botanical techniques and perhaps finding the one or two techniques that they want to focus on in future botanical classes.

Thursday - April 6: An Introduction to the Botanical Sampler class with a visual presentation and discussion of the history of botanical art and illustration. This is a 2 hour class – 6-8pm
Thursdays - April 16, 23, 30, May 7: Four class sessions, four techniques – 6-9pm

Artist Biography
Elaine is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Art with a major in painting and a minor in printmaking. Elaine also worked as a storyboard and animation artist in and out of CA before moving to Arizona in 2001 to work as the lead concept artist for a MMORPG computer game and upon completion enrolled in a Botanical Art and Illustration certificate program being held at the Phoenix Botanical Garden and received a certificate of completion in 2010 and began teaching classes within the program until 2015. She returned to SLC to be closer to her family and began teaching this botanical art and illustration program at Red Butte Garden in 2016 until 2020. Elaine also taught and periodically teaches botanical art classes at Life-long Learning. Elaine has a love all things botanical including botanical illustration and has rendered several pen and Ink illustrations of new species for botanists in Salt Lake and Arizona.
