Workshop description
Henry Yan is an established contemporary fine artist as well as a full-time art teacher at the Academy of Art University in San Francisco. He has been teaching drawing and oil painting for more than 20 years and giving workshops in North America and Europe.
Students will learn the methods and whole procedures of drawing figure/head/hand with charcoals. In short and long pose practices students will improve their skill in drawing accurate human proportions, anatomy, and rendering dark and light in order to create 3 dimensional human forms; as well as the application of various line works, edge control, lost and found, composition and design, etc,.
Different techniques introduced in the book “Henry Yan’s Figure Drawing-Techniques and Tips”, will also be explained and practiced in class.

Charcoal pencil: medium and soft: HB, 2B,4B or 6B.
Vine charcoal or willow: soft, in medium or large sizes;
Kneaded eraser;
knife for sharpening pencils;
