Workshop description

As you look around you, you will see many images that are created for dish towels, yard art flags, greeting cards or children’s books. This class is a wonderful and informative workshop that will walk you through the many layers of the fun world of whimsical and creative iconic illustration that is licensed all over the world. If you have a great story you have wanted to share, but need art images to support it, this class will teach you the fundamental basics to get you started. The class will be broken into three parts… Lecture and learning, ideas and research and actual rendering of drawings. We encourage you to come with an idea or two of a character, story or image that you have wanted to explore. (this is not required, but a suggestion, we will be going over this in the class, in which you can explore it more throughly)

Illustration is about telling a story in a brief fun, creative piece of art. It’s also about being aware of design trends, color pallets and themes. Michelle will teach about all of these things and will teach you how to draw and render your illustrations using watercolors or water-color pencils with prism colored pencils for detail or pen and ink. If you are not confident in your drawing, many designs will be provided for you to trace and render. You can expect to create one to two illustrations by the end of the workshop, but some home work may be required to finish the illustrations you start in the workshop.

Michelle will teach you a really fun and easy way to create illustrations for gifts, cards or more! It’s a great way to spend a Saturday. So invite your friends and family to join you, or come on your own and make some new friends!

About the Instructor

Michelle Wayman has been a professional artist for over 30 years. She is masterful in many mediums, but loves watercolor and colored pencil. She currently has an agent that licenses her work and submits art on an on going basis that is considered for many things, such as greeting cards, yard flags, gift bags, party-ware, home decor and more. She was the first artist that Provo craft branded, and created many lines of water colored stickers, papers and more that were sold to scrap-bookers world wide. She has a passion for art and would love to teach you about the commercial illustration industry.
