Workshop description
This summer come travel the globe in this unique kids art camp. With international artist and educator, Jill Saxton Smith, we will explore traditional art techniques of 6 different cultures and create our own kid take on it. This camp is aimed at fostering cultural awareness, collaboration, creative thinking and expression that includes hands-on experiences in a variety of mediums and techniques. All supplies and a snack will be provided, please bring a water bottle.
Masks are used for a variety of ceremonies, rituals, dances, and to honor ancient spirits of the first nation cultures in British Canada. In this class will examine traditional Aboriginal masks and how they are decorated and the special meanings behind the shapes and colors. We will then create crazy and colorful masks with our own personal meanings.
