Workshop description

This summer come travel the globe in this unique kids art camp. With international artist and educator, Jill Saxton Smith, we will explore traditional art techniques of 6 different cultures and create our own kid take on it. This camp is aimed at fostering cultural awareness, collaboration, creative thinking and expression that includes hands-on experiences in a variety of mediums and techniques. All supplies and a snack will be provided, please bring a water bottle.

A major hallmark of the holy month of Ramadan is the famous (lantern), which is an essential part of Ramadan decorations in Egypt. In this class we will create our own beautiful carved Egyptian lanterns out of clay! 


About the Instructor

Jill Saxton Smith, a native of Utah, has been living and working as an artist internationally for the past 15 years. Some of the places she lived include Egypt, Zimbabwe, Canada and Guatemala. She received her BFA from Utah State University and her MFA from Emily Carr University of Art and Design. She has given many lectures, taught workshops and demonstrated her art as a visiting artist to a variety of organizations and schools including a position as elementary art teacher at Colegio Maya, the top international school in Guatemala. Jill’s goal is to help her students not only develop technical skills but to also experience the power that art holds as a viable means of communication and expression.
