Workshop Description
Conveying the illusion of texture is one of the most satisfying aspects of still life painting, and metal and glass are the most asked-about of them all! Get into the holiday spirit, and learn how to “speak” the texture of shiny metal in your paintings with Oregon artist Sarah Sedwick, author of the book Dynamic Still Life for Artists, in this three-day workshop.
Paint looser and more confidently, and create a holiday-themed painting to decorate with for generations. We’ll cover still life setup and lighting, color mixing, and loose brushwork, all the while squinting, simplifying, and exaggerating the qualities that create the illusion of glowing ornaments.
Learn the fundamentals of good design, creating sketches and value studies to plan a composition that works. Using a split-primary palette as our color foundation - two reds, two yellows, and two blues, plus some bright bonus colors - we’ll do quick, fun exercises to focus on loosening up our brushwork before creating a finished piece.
Class size limited to 12 students.
