Oil Painting: Basics with Veronica Zak

Class description
The first in our four-part series to get you comfortable using oil paints in all their glory! In this class we will go over the proper tools, solvents and painting techniques to get you started. We will practice color mixing and go over some color theory. Experience the joys of mixing and painting with creamy smooth oils and learn about the do’s, don’ts, dry times, and layering tricks while we make a small practice painting that you can bring home with you!
Supplies
We provide: Paper towels, cups, pallet paper, practice canvas paper and an easel. Additionally, we can provide all painting supplies for use in this class (other than square canvas and brushes) for an added fee.
Required Materials:
Small Canvas (square, between 5 x 5” and 10 x 10”)
A few small to medium sized brushes.
Optional Materials:
A pallet, ideally one with a lid so you can save your paint
An apron
Oil Paint (We will provide paint supplies for an added fee if you don’t have your own.)
Turpenoid or Artist’s White Spirit (for cleaning), Galkyd Lite (for blending)
Recommended colors for this class are:
Ultramarine Blue
Titanium White
Quinacridone Red OR Permanent Carmine
Cadmium Yellow Light (Avoid Hues– those aren’t as good!)
Burnt Umber
