Workshop description
The follow-on class to the Organic Sketching series… Let’s put all those new techniques to work for us and create some great drawings! (Organic Sketching is a prerequisite)
- Chris Maggio ~ Instructor
ORGANIC DRAWING is a 3-Hour Workshop designed to stretch the mental and sketching skills we learned in OS. Time to bring your own style and designs into the picture! Employing your newfound Organic Sketching skills and techniques, we work together to bring your sketched concepts to the completed drawing stage. We will be working from images that you find interesting, as well as real objects, and of course, your imaginations! So, bring in the ideas, the sketches, and visions that you most want to create (i.e. dragons, aircraft, flowers, whatever!) We will be learning about shading, tone, line quality, highlighting, weight, and focus. It’ll be fun, a mental challenge, a hand eye coordination experience, and a solid new base from which to create!
Material list
NOTE: The Instructor prefers to teach using a SPECIFIC PAPER so it will be provided for you. You do not have to bring paper!
What you DO need to bring:
A: 6 Prismacolor Verithin pencils (2 Peacock Green + 2 Indigo Blue + 2 colors of your choice) NOT the round Prismacolor pencils! Verithins have flat sides. These are available at Utrecht art supply store. Yes, it's very possible to go thru 6 pencils in 3 hours! :)
B: Personal pencil sharpener There are sharpeners at the studio but this allows you to not interrupt your process repeatedly by getting up, as well as handling less "community" items! (All artists should have a good sharpener anyways!)
C: Ideas! Bring your ideas! Think ahead of what you might want to create, objects, food, animals, mechanisms, mythical beasts, etc! What have you been struggling with? What do you want to capture more accurately? Once we have a grasp on the techniques and skills you will have a chance to apply them to your ideas.
D: OPTIONAL - Larger pad of SMOOTH paper (such as bristol or other smooth surface) THIS IS ONLY OPTIONAL! We will be working exclusively on the paper provided in the class throughout the workshop, so if you choose to purchase a larger pad, that's up to you. Advanced artists may wish to expand their new skills in larger ways during the last hour and that is fine as long as we work within the lessons.
What NOT to bring:
A: No Pictures or digital images as artistic references... Nope, we won't be needing them! Trust me...
B: Illness of any kind! Please be super thoughtful and consider the health of the others. If you do not feel well in any form we would love to have you join us when you are feeling great! Don't forget your mask, and hand sanitizer!
