Workshop description

A Satisfying Exploration of New Sketching Techniques

“My sketches feel flat and boring.” ~ “ The hard part is getting started” ~ “My sketches don’t reflect what I’m thinking”  We can fix that!

We are holding an adult Organic Sketching Workshop (ages 15+) designed to instantly impact and advance your sketching and drawing abilities. From novice doodler to advanced Artiste’ my OS Workshop will bring out your untapped or forgotten abilities in fun and expressive ways! Learn to draw like you think, organically!

No matter your subject, the process begins by loving to sketch!

Organic Sketching (OS) is a relaxing, natural, and pleasing way to express our concepts, ideas, and dreams into their first visual stages. It’s a combination of learning healthy sketching skills, observation, and endless practice. Sketching is the very first step in almost every genre of art, i.e. drawing, painting, sculpting, architecture, or design. Unreliable skills make starting a sketch frustrating, and can even prevent you from trying. Bring your imagination, courage, and your open mind, and let’s make sketching exciting again! See you there!

Material list

NOTE: The Instructor prefers to teach using a SPECIFIC PAPER so it will be provided for you. You do not have to bring paper!

What you DO need to bring:

A: 6 Prismacolor Verithin pencils (2 Peacock Green + 2 Indigo Blue + 2 colors of your choice) NOT the round Prismacolor pencils! Verithins have flat sides. These are available at Utrecht art supply store. Yes, it's very possible to go thru 6 pencils in 3 hours! :)

B: Personal pencil sharpener There are sharpeners at the studio but this allows you to not interrupt your process repeatedly by getting up, as well as handling less "community" items! (All artists should have a good sharpener anyways!)

C: Ideas! Bring your ideas! Think ahead of what you might want to create, objects, food, animals, mechanisms, mythical beasts, etc! What have you been struggling with? What do you want to capture more accurately? Once we have a grasp on the techniques and skills you will have a chance to apply them to your ideas.

D: OPTIONAL - Larger pad of SMOOTH paper (such as bristol or other smooth surface) THIS IS ONLY OPTIONAL! We will be working exclusively on the paper provided in the class throughout the workshop, so if you choose to purchase a larger pad, that's up to you. Advanced artists may wish to expand their new skills in larger ways during the last hour and that is fine as long as we work within the lessons.

What NOT to bring:

A: No Pictures or digital images as artistic references... Nope, we won't be needing them! Trust me...

B: Illness of any kind! Please be super thoughtful and consider the health of the others. If you do not feel well in any form we would love to have you join us when you are feeling great! Don't forget your mask, and hand sanitizer!
