Building a Painting: Creating Layers With Mixed Media with Stacy Phillips

  • WORKSHOP SLC 153 W 2100 South South Salt Lake, UT, 84115 United States (map)

In this dynamic Mixed Media Painting class we will explore building layers starting from the ground up. Starting with Limestone Clay and experimenting with different Golden Pastes and Gels, we will create a ground for our paintings to build layers of our individual mark making, using various drawing materials, acrylic paints and collage as well as image transfers.  Developing our surface with personal subject matter, whether abstract or representational, through these  various media applications can lead to very meaningful visual language.  Students will discover that there is no limit to the layers of history and imagery that we can build in our paintings.  The only limit is our imagination.

Dates: August 28 - 30, 2020 (3-day workshop)

Time: 10:00 am - 4:30 pm

Price: $425 + $50 Material Fee

ABOUT THE ARTIST:

Stacy Phillips has lived in Utah since 1987. She is currently living and working in Salt Lake City, Utah.

“There are infinite possibilities and challenges in creating work when you think of the materials and concepts that are available to the open mind. I am fascinated and addicted to the process of making art. To be submersed from the beginning of an idea through the course of execution is the state of the creative process that I wish to reside. My intent is to absorb as much about this process as I can both technically and conceptually in my life time. To challenge myself throughout the journey of creating art and to maintain the passion of the desire.”
