Workshop Description
Learning how to paint a portrait from life is a valuable and inspiring way to work. In this workshop students will be working from a live model to learn and master skills of draftsmanship and accuracy in drawing, how to perceive values correctly, and the nuance of edge control and color. Brendan will teach important concepts related to constructing and painting the human face. His hands on approach to teaching and mentoring will help students of all skill levels feel comfortable in approaching the exciting art of painting from life. The skills developed in this workshop can be translated to painting from photographs more convincingly and help any artist feel more confident in their desire to paint portraits.
About the Artist
Brendan Clary is an accomplished portrait painter. His work captures cherished loved ones as well as international leaders. After graduating Magna Cum Laude from Brigham Young University-Idaho in 2010, Brendan went on to study with renowned artist William Whitaker where he fine tuned his craft. He is currently finishing up an MFA from the Academy of Art University. His passion for painting is also reflected in his joy for teaching. Brendan began teaching at the collegiate level in 2011. He currently teaches for Salt Lake Community College and Brigham Young University. Offering workshops and private instruction fuels his joy for painting. He has a passion for helping artists of all skill levels improve their understanding and craft with a focus on traditional methods and classical realism.
